About Us

Healy & Son is a traditional British tailoring house built on generations of craftsmanship, family heritage, and a passion for timeless menswear. Based in Crowthorne, Berkshire, we specialise in bespoke tailoring, made-to-measure garments, and shirtmaking, producing elegant clothing inspired by the classic West End style of London tailoring.

Our story spans more than half a century and is rooted firmly in the traditions of British bespoke craftsmanship.

A Savile Row Pedigree

The foundations of Healy & Son begin with Chris Healy, whose career in tailoring started in Surrey during the 1960s. After honing his skills with prominent menswear outfitters, Chris was recruited by Conway Williams, one of Britain’s most respected military tailoring houses. Their reputation for crafting uniforms for British Army officers made them one of the most distinguished military tailors of the time.

Chris’s expertise in military tailoring soon led him to work in London’s Mayfair district before being recruited by Gieves & Hawkes on the world-famous Savile Row. The firm, founded in the eighteenth century and long associated with British military and royal clientele, represents one of the most historic tailoring houses in the world.

During his time there, Chris was responsible for the maintenance and ceremonial dressing of the uniforms worn by the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, a prestigious role that demanded the highest standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

After leaving Savile Row, Chris continued working freelance across a range of prominent menswear brands. His contributions to the craft even included developing the wool felt top hat as a practical alternative to traditional silk hats, a design that later became widely adopted by formal hat makers.

Establishing the Family Business

In 1985 Chris established Healy Menswear in Crowthorne, Berkshire. The business quickly built a strong reputation for classic gentleman’s tailoring, accessories, and formalwear.

Alongside the tailoring shop, Chris created a formal hirewear department known as Black Tie, which would grow into a successful enterprise in its own right and become the primary trading name of the business for many years.

While the hirewear side flourished, the tailoring heritage of the business remained central to its identity.

A New Generation

Chris’s son, Graeme Healy, joined the company in 2001. Already skilled with a needle and thread, Graeme shared his father’s passion for traditional tailoring and craftsmanship.

After travelling in Japan for a year, Graeme returned with renewed inspiration and began focusing on building the bespoke side of the business. Over the following decade he carefully nurtured and expanded the personal tailoring service, restoring it as the heart of the company.

In 2018, the tailoring arm of the business was formally rebranded as Healy & Son, reflecting both the family legacy and the renewed focus on bespoke craftsmanship.

Under Graeme’s leadership the shop developed a loyal clientele, drawn to its combination of traditional British cutting, military-influenced structure, and exceptional value compared to larger London tailoring houses.

Continuing the Tradition

Graeme remained at the helm of the bespoke shop for many years, personally handling commissions and guiding clients through the process of creating beautifully fitted garments. His dedication ensured that every piece produced carried the same attention to detail and integrity that defined the family’s tailoring heritage.

Following Graeme’s passing in 2024, the responsibility of continuing this legacy passed to Alex Kershaw, who took on the stewardship of the tailoring house.

Today, Healy & Son continues to operate with the same principles that have guided it since the beginning: craftsmanship, integrity, and a commitment to producing garments designed to last decades rather than seasons.

Our Philosophy

At Healy & Son we believe that true tailoring should be both exceptional and accessible.

Our garments are cut with the precision and structure associated with the classic Savile Row tradition, strong shoulders, clean lines, and elegant waist suppression, yet designed to suit the lifestyle and budgets of modern gentlemen.

Each commission is approached with the same care and attention that has defined the house for generations, ensuring that every client receives a garment that is not only beautifully made, but uniquely theirs.
